Privacy & Information Use Policy

You're really reading a privacy policy? Whoa. Well, good for you. Here's what's up.

Fardousa and her campaign, Fardousa Jama for Mankato City Council, care about your privacy. We don't like annoying invasions and creepy data use either. Here's an overview of what information we collect on this website, how we use it and how we don't.

Information We Collect

Visitor Stats & Analytics: Our website, like most others out there, collects general information about how much traffic we get and what pages are viewed, along with some basic visitor stats like browser and operating system, which referral sources send traffic to us (like ads and search engines) and where our visitors come from geographically. In general, we only use this statistical information in aggregate to understand who is using our website and how they're using it so we can make it more effective.

Personal & Contact Information: Obviously, if you sign up to receive updates or volunteer for the campaign on our website or in one of our social media channels, we do collect your name and contact information (as provided by you) in those cases. We only use the personal information you provide in order to provide you with information relevant to our campaign, volunteer opportunities, the election, and Fardousa's work in the community. We also record the IP address used to submit personal information to us, so that we can more easily track, identify and block bots and other abusive uses of these forms.

Social Media Information: When you follow our social media channels (including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), use social media features on our website, or engage with (like/retweet/favorite/pin/comment) our content, we may see certain information about your social media profile (like your name or handle, profile pic, and profile URL) and your publicly visible information in those channels may also be available to us. In general, we don't collect or have access to information that exceeds what others you interact with through social media have, and we typically only use this information for engagement (like answering messages, following up with comments/reacts and gauging interest in our social media content).

Financial Information: If you support our campaign with an online financial donation using PayPal or an online fundraising service like ActBlue, GoFundMe or Kickstarter, we receive the information you provide with your donation (like name, address, email, notes you optionally include, and sometimes very limited detail about the type of payment method used. We use the information to send you a receipt and a thank you, to comply with campaign finance reporting requirements and sometimes to follow up with you about your donation or abou the campaign more generally. We DO NOT store or receive your sensitive payment details with these electronic payments.

How We Use & Protect Personal Data

With the small amount of information we collect, we do pretty much what most people would want and expect from a campaign! We use it to: communicate with you about Fardousa and the election, to try to improve our efforts to connect to supporters, constituents and the public at large and to satisfy campaign regulations and applicable laws. We do not sell, share, publish or provide our list data to other parties for non-campaign purposes.

Like all good campaigns, we do provide the information required for complying with campaign finance rules to appropriate campaign oversight authorities.

We may provide certain list data to- or store data directly with- trusted vendors that directly facilitate campaign activities. For example, we may store our email list at MailChimp to enable us to send our campaign emails and we may provide mailing lists to the USPS for sending letters to voters supporters.

We also occasionally engage volunteers to facilitate campaign activities involving supporter information, like addressing post cards, receipts and thank you notes.

In all cases, we take care to make available only the information required and make sure that the information is used only for bona fide campaign purposes.
